The pharmacy of the future

Traditional Flemish brickwork with a contemporary look

The client contacted the architect with a clear vision in mind. What would become 'the pharmacy of the future', was confirmed by concepts such as customer centricity, functionality, architecture and detailing. The result is a powerful sample of innovative architecture in every way.

The project in Berendrecht is surrounded by several older buildings in traditional Flemish brickwork.  The original plan was to use the rustic bricks of the old dilapidated building for the new project. However, qualitatively the choice for new facing bricks was evident. The Rustique Old Kwaeremont laid in a stretcher bond fitted perfectly in the street scene.

Sculp[IT] wanted to create a very abstract building focusing on functionality.  Therefore, the ground floor was conceived as a glass beam in which the 'showroom' of the pharmacy is located.

To ensure the architectural balance of the building and to respect its context, the choice was made to place a brick upper level on the glass base. The brick upper floor houses one of the country's largest pharmacy robots. It's high-tech of the highest level with a typical Flemish wrapping.

The precision and the technical ingenuity were maintained up until the last detail. Frameless glass, tailor lasered window frames and brick strips for the ceiling. The Old Kwaeremont used for the ceiling contributes to the abstraction of the upper level and to the authenticity of the project.

It gives the 'futuristic' building the necessary warmth and makes it accessible for the general public.  The passer-by is, as it were, triggered to take a look inside.
