The South West Water Green Garden

Design: Tom Simpson

Clay pavers: Ancienne Belgique Oyster grey (70%)
and Pearl grey (30%) mix

The garden’s fluid curves flow towards a central, circular terrace and water feature. Rainwater is managed by a rain garden that follows the shape of the path leading off the terrace. Permeable paving on the path and terrace helps reduce water run-off from the garden's hard surfaces.

Flood-tolerant planting has been selected, as well as a mix of perennials and grasses that are best suited to well-drained soils and drier conditions. Read more

The South Oxfordshire Landscape Garden

Inspired by a stretch of the River Thames in South Oxfordshire, this garden is in essence a recreation of that location in miniature. The brick terrace and wall reference a local Brunel railway bridge.

Two rills suggest the Thames, and the large swathes of sedge are inspired by the planting along the floodplains. Colourful drifts reference the wildflowers thriving along the Thames’ path, and clipped topiary suggests blocks of shrubs spilling over the riverbank. Read more.

Check out the atmosphere of last year!

Light grey clay paver demonstrates its versatility as a paving material

As managers of family business Tuinen Hoornaert, the pair designed the outside space with two aims in mind: to create both a peaceful oasis for the family and also an inspiring show garden for customers. The result: a garden that stimulates the senses and spontaneously inspires ideas while at the same time looking completely natural and simple.
