Authentic clay pavers provide a seamless transition between the interior and the exterior

A peaceful haven in all seasons

Gianni De Clercq from Green Concepts was given the briefing to design a garden which the owners could enjoy all year round. In the midst of all the hustle and bustle there should be a functional and low-maintenance area, combining the traditional character with some modern elements.

Most important within the new garden design project was the swimming pool, complete with its own country-style annex building. The annex would be an ideal place to enjoy the very best of each season.

This multi-purpose area not only has a view over the entire garden but also becomes part of the garden once the large steel sliding glass doors are opened.

The paving with Ancienne Belgique Copper Brown pavers continuing inside really makes a difference. This helps to create the feeling of a single unit, thanks to the harmony between the garden and covered area.

The authentic Ancienne Belgique clay pavers were chosen in a copper-brown colour, suiting the planned style for the annex building and the garden perfectly.

The reddish-brown shade with hints of black fits beautifully with the materials chosen for this area and contributes to the desired country style.

To respond to the owner's request for an area which was low-maintenance it was agreed to lay the pavers in a mortar bed.
This minimises the risk of weeds and makes it even easier to look after the pavers.

The plants were selected to give year-round colour and interest. Spring bulbs, blossoming shrubs and permanent plants provide the desired variation.  Evergreen and deciduous hedging gives the necessary structure to maintain a good look in winter time.

In the summer the sleek swimming pool becomes the key focus in the garden. To keep things tidy around the pool special zones have been added to the wings of the pool for placing garden furniture and loungers.

For these zones, just like the pool edging, blue limestone was chosen, being a beautiful combination with the clay pavers.
These zones are strategically placed to form a corner between the swimming pool and annex building.  In this way the annex is perfectly placed to serve as a pool-house in the summer.
